We are an information and support
group founded in 2000
for people who are the parents,
carers or partners of Adults and young people with Aspergers Syndrome(AS)
in Sheffield and South Yorkshire
The group gives
people a chance to:
- meet with other
parents, partners and carers of people with AS.
- share experiences.
- benefit from mutual
support.
- campaign for better
facilities and services for adults with AS .
- Hear guest speakers talk on relevant subjects
- Access a library of books/articles about AS and ASD.
|
The group meets once monthly -
click on 'Where & when we meet'.
During our first years we
have already had a number of successes, including:
- Providing informal
support to each other (our most important role).
- Getting 30+ speakers
to our meetings to inform and advise us (thanks to them all)
- Developing a database of
people with AS in Sheffield and beyond
- Increasing the awareness
of some of the key professionals across the city.
- Putting AS on the Agenda
of Social Services.
- Considering various
Supported Housing Schemes
- Supporting research at
both Sheffield Universities
- Gaining special funding
for an exciting innovative support project for young AS children and
their parents (Insight Project).
- Setting up a library of
resources (and opened access to other existing resources).
- Social events.
- Eastablishing links with other local support groups
SAPAG is financially supported
by Sheffield City Council Community
Partnership Unit and
private donations.
